Done in Photoshop cs. Edit: Spent a little more time on the creature's skin - plus added the second arm, making the first look less like a weird lonely tentacle thingy. Criticism is always welcome - I can take it.  Love it.
I like the fact there's obviously a story behind it. A lot of pieces just look pretty (this one does as well) but this also has a story layer.  It's hard to work on a pic for several hours without dreaming up some story about it. But I'm happy you think there's a story in it for the viewer as well.
